This portfolio is responsible for increasing public awareness about Islam and Muslims through providing access to suitable resources, working with educational institutions in supporting the teaching of Islamic values and historical contributions of Muslims, and other means.
The two main areas of focus for the portfolio have been:
- Contribution to Public School Curriculum - through working with the public school system in Alberta in promoting, to the extent considered appropriate by the school system, the inclusion of the contribution of Islamic civilization.
- Liaison with Chair in Islamic Studies, University of Alberta - which has involved the ECMC working in close collaboration with the University of Alberta in establishing the first endowed Chair in Islamic Studies in Western Canada. Towards this end, the portfolio maintains regular with the incumbent Chair in promoting and supporting the provision of scholarships in Islamic Studies and devising and organizing community ad public awareness programs related to the broader topic of Islamic studies.
